Alumni Success Stories: Our Data Analytics Graduates’ Biggest Takeaways

At General Assembly, we strive to empower people to pursue careers they love. With our learners, this means equipping them with skills and providing them with opportunities to shape rewarding careers for themselves. In this alumni series, we will share stories of our alumni’s journeys in the hopes that their paths will inspire others to chart their own paths to fulfilling careers.

In this post, we’re looking at what our Data Analytics Bootcamps graduates have to say about their biggest takeaways from the course, their thoughts on the impact of data analytics and how their time with GA has inspired them to pursue lifelong learning.

Cold Hard Facts of Data

“I learned to speak the truth through data analysis.” - Siti Aishah

“Making informed decision using available datasets is crucial to ensure our final decision is relevant to business needs.”  - Mohd Hafiy

In their “The Analytics Advantage” survey, Deloitte found that almost half of the respondents assured that the number one advantage of analytics is that it’s the key player in better decision-making. From planning business strategies to innovating and investing in new technologies, the right datasets help decision makers to point them in the right direction.

With organizations having an increasing access to data, they’re able to remain competitive in their respective industries to stay ahead of the game. As the usage of big data grows, data analysts and data engineers are able to work with their organisations in order to simplify and streamline their decision-making processes.

Data Is Everywhere

“Data analytics knowledge is extremely valuable because we can apply it to all kinds of jobs in various industries.” - Intan Rafidah

“My biggest take away from this course is about learning the importance of data and its dominance in the coming years.”  -  Kamalanathan Selva

Data analytics skills are growing increasingly relevant in almost every industry as data is present anywhere. Wherever there’s data, there’ll be an accompanying need to extract, study and analyse what the data means and how it can help improve strategies and decisions.

Various industries like banking and financial services, retail, media and entertainment, education and research, healthcare and manufacturing are experiencing exponential growth in the use of data to better understand their product and consumers. Manufacturing, in particular, is reported to experience the highest increased growth in data usage in the coming years. Due to the industry producing mass amounts of data by its nature, more manufacturers are looking into adopting big data to optimise operations, maintenance, risk management and more.

In healthcare, data analytics is helping to improve patient-practitioner relations, help produce more accurate results by detecting faults or anomalies in health scans as well as in predicting outbreaks—for instance, how we navigate the Covid-19 endemic relies heavily on data analyses.

Lifelong Learning

“Learning analytics with this programme creates just enough good stress to ramp up my focus and creativity, and I’m able to implement what I’ve learned in my future in all aspects.”- Arina Azizan

“One should not stay with one set of skills. As long as you have the passion and willingness to learn, you can take on any challenge to reach your goals.” - Liana Shafiqah

In the digital era, new skills are being constructed and innovated constantly. As new technologies develop, organisations will need to find talent that could work with and optimise these technologies to get the best business results. Taking up new skills doesn’t only apply to fresh graduates–an increasing amount of seasoned professionals are also seeking to upskill in areas different from their core specialties to fulfill their potential and keep up with the digital age.

Here at GA, we’re true advocates of lifelong learning and gaining new skills as you continue down your career path. As pioneers of education and career development, we’re dedicated in helping our learners gain new knowledge that would contribute to their process of reaching their goals, whether personal or professional.
